Katowice car tour

"Katowice car tour" is a tour during which you will get to know Katowice comprehensively. We travel by car, which allows us to reach the most interesting places in various parts of the city comfortably and quickly.

The tour begins with a meeting at the Main Market Square, from where we'll take a short walk around the Old Railway Station and Korfantego Avenue. Our guide will explain the city's history and its most important buildings and monuments (including the Silesian Insurgents Monument). Then, we'll board a car (or bus, depending on the size of the group) and, passing the Spodek Arena, the International Congress Center, and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra building, head to Bogucice. In this oldest district of Katowice, we'll see the neo-Gothic Basilica of St. Stephen and Our Lady of Bogucice, as well as the house where Jerzy Kukuczka, one of the greatest alpinists of all time, grew up.

The next stop on the tour is the Culture Zone, a modern cultural and artistic complex built on the site of the closed Katowice Mine. The modern Silesian Museum has been integrated into the mine's historic buildings.

Then the route leads to Nikiszowiec, a workers' housing estate built in the early 20th century for miners of the Giesche mine. The estate is characterized by unique architecture – nine red brick buildings contain 1,207 apartments. We will also drive through Giszowiec to see the remains of the "garden city" from the vehicle windows.

The next stop is connected to the tragic events at the Wujek Coal Mine, which took place there in 1981 during the suppression of a strike.

Then, while walking, we will see the modernist "Skyscraper", the socialist realist Youth Palace, the Monument to the Victims of Katyn and a place connected with the history of the "Red Widow".

Finally, we'll reach the largest cathedral in Poland, the Archcathedral of Christ the King in Katowice. On the roof of the cathedral there is an observation deck from which (weather permitting) we will admire the panorama of Katowice, summing up our trip.

On the way back to Korfantego Avenue, we pass the Silesian Parliament building, which is a historical monument, and Warszawska Street, known for its historic tenement houses and villas.
